REAL TECHNIQUES // Limited Edition Night Owl Makeup Kit - Review + SwatchesTuesday, May 20, 2014
Yesterday I blogged all about the new (and limited edition) release of the Real Techniques Makeup Kits, specifically sharing the Modern Natural kit. So today I have the second one; the darker, more night appropriate, Night Owl kit. I posted a little more background about Real Techniques and the kits in general, so have a quick read of yesterday's post if you missed it (here) and then come back to this one to see all the swatches for this kit.
The kit also came with the Pointed Liner Brush as a extra bonus, which everyone will receive if they order one of the palettes (or both, and then you get two!) and you can't complain about a free RT brush!
Exactly like the Modern Natural makeup kit, the Night Owl has four eye shadows, a gel eyeliner, a blush, a cream highlighter and two lip glosses. One of the shadows and the highlighter are the same in both kits, but the rest are different.
GEL EYELINER IN INK
Appropriately included in this kit is a black gel eyeliner. Now I am not a big gel liner person, so it was a good chance to try this one. It has good pigmentation, but it's not as jet black as I would prefer, but I think it is good for simply adding definition to the upper lash line. However the formula is smooth and it doesn't pull or drag along the eye.
Exactly like the Modern Natural kit, this offers a nice range of shades over the four in the kit with varying finishes. The pigmentation is good and they are very buildable and blendable. Quicksand is included in the Modern Natural kit and is cream shadow with a gold shimmer through it. Royal Orchid is pretty much a matte shade, although it does have a little hint of glitter through it (although that could be from the other shadows beside it). Midnight Sparkle is a beautiful navy, that is again mostly matte but has tiny glitter particles through it, although they are barely noticeable. Galaxy is very glittery, but great for night's out. It is a very deep navy, pretty much black that is packed with glitter and sparkle although it isn't to chunky so it still blends out well.
Two very cute mini tubes of lip gloss are included, with a simple doe foot applicator. As written yesterday, these only have a slight tackiness to them, and they glide onto the lips very easily. Nude Rose is a sheer brown nude, full of gold micro glitter. Cabernet really steps up the whole night time look, and is a deep red with no shimmer in it and has a semi-sheer and glossy finish on the lips (for some reason the image of the tubes just did not want to show up the red as it truly is like in the swatch).
BLUSH IN FLUSHED
Initially I thought the blushes were the same shade but this is ever so slightly darker from the Modern Natural offering and runs more pink then it does coral compared to the other one. It is still beautiful and well pigmented powder blush and it has quite a bit of micro shimmer through it.
CREAM HIGHLIGHTER IN CHAMPAGNE
This highlighter is exactly the same from in the other kit, is a very neutral champagne colour, and as I said in yesterday's post; it's the cream version of The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer. I find it very creamy and it blends into the skin very well with just dabbing your fingers along the tops of the cheekbone area.
Again I am really impressed with this kit and I am very glad I got both. I think they are great for day and night [obviously you can use either one at any time of day] but I do love the darker shades in this palette, specifically the navy which is a colour you rarely see in palettes. You can buy both direct from the Real Techniques website for USD $25.00 each (approx. $29 NZD) and they now have worldwide shipping from the website, for very low prices. The shipping for both of these was around NZD $6, and I would get in quick and make your order before they all sell out. I am hoping this is the start of more makeup to come from Real Techniques!
What makeup kit do your prefer; the Night Owl or Modern Natural? Are you excited about Real Techniques delve into makeup?!
