URBAN DECAY | Naked Basics Palette Review + Swatches

Thursday, 8 May 2014

Urban Decay just can't do any wrong when it comes to shadows, specifically with their palettes. So to kick off the UD trilogy [see The Introduction post here] I have the very compact, very versatile, Naked Basics Palette.

This gorgeous neutral palette includes six shades; one shimmer and five mattes. It is the ultimate companion to any other eye shadows and I find it a staple for my makeup bag, specifically when travelling. As expected the pigmentation is out of this world, and not only that, they blend out so well. They last all day without creasing and just tick all the boxes for amazing quality shadows.

THE SWATCHES

As you can see the swatches above show some serious colour pay off, these are pretty much just one swipe with each colour. Venus is the only shimmer shade in the palette, it is a white shimmer, perfect for inner corner/brow bone highlighting. Foxy and Walk of Shame/W.O.S. are the light neutral of the lots, one being more yellow based and the other pink based; these two are great for using as an all over base, or helping to blend out the darker shades. Naked 2 is probably my most used from the palette, it definitely comes off darker then it looks in the pan and is a light brown. The darker shades are great for liners and just general eye shadow use, Faint is a warm, dark brown and Crave is the most pigmented and rich black shadow I have ever used.

My favourite combos are to use Naked 2 all over the lid and go in with Faint on the outer corner and deepen the eye. I always reach for Venus as a inner corner highlight. It is the perfect everyday eyeshadow palette and has all the essential matte colours you could want. I think it is important that you have a good couple of matte shadows as they just help to up your shadow game, allowing you to blend easily and add definition without packing on the shimmer or glitter.

The best place to purchase this is Beauty Bay (here) for approx. NZD $42, the best part is that they have free worldwide shipping!

Are you part of the UD cult? Are there any of there products you can't live without?
