GETTING INTO GLOSSThursday, July 17, 2014
If you've been a regular reader of CM, you would have heard me on a number of occasions exclaim my dislike for lip gloss - well now I think I need to eat my words as I am finally getting into gloss. To be honest I was not expecting those words to come out of my mouth (or from my brain to my fingers typing this), but yes it is true; I've been dabbling in some lip gloss action and really enjoying it.
My main hate for lip glosses was the stickyness, and I am sure many of you can vouch the same negative feeling. I think this stemmed from my very early makeup wearing days where all glosses were gloppy, glittery, sticky messes, which resulted in me putting a ban towards all glosses and basically swearing against them. But now as I venture deeper and deeper into a makeup obsessed vortex, I've tried a few out and I've liked a few. Now I can't say that I'll be a lip gloss wearing gal on the daily but when I am feeling a bit of a sheeny pout, these are some of the ones I'll grab.
MODEL CO. Shine Ultra Lip Gloss in Striptease [NZD $18.00 here]
This particular gloss is my mum's favourite and I think she has been through a few tubes of it and is trying to get her hand on this one as well. The colour of this works with so many different lip colours as it only has a hint of peachyness to it. It's not sticky, glides on smooth and has a sweet fruity scent to it. There is also a built in mirror on the side for applying on the go.
NAPOLEON PERDIS Lip Gloss [In Style Magazine Freebie - similar here]
Now this one is a touch sticky, but I can forgive it as the colour is beautiful. It is more on the pinker peach side than the Model Co. without much of the shimmer. This one works really well on its own as it lends more opaque.
BENEFIT Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in Life on the A List [USD $18.00 here]
This sample sized lip gloss came in a limited edition Benefit Kit and at first I didn't think I was going to like it but now I am a big fan. The colour is in line with the others, a nude pink and it smells fruity and sweet
HOURGLASS Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss in Child [NZD $54.00 here or USD $28.00 here]
Who knew that a sample lip gloss would get so much use from me, as this one has been the one I reach for the most. It has no obvious shimmer or glitter in it, but has an 'extreme' gloss finish. It is the smoothest one I've tried and it is totally non-sticky, that has quite a bit of pigment to it that can be worn alone. The scent smells like cakes and if I could eat it, I would.
NYX Butter Gloss in Eclair [USD $5.00 here]
If I had to rate these in order, this one would come in at number two beside the Hourglass gloss. The bonus with the Butter Gloss range is that they are a fraction of the price and smell AMAZING (f you haven't smelt one of these, you are missing out!) But they go way beyond the scent as these deliver great colour pay off with no glitter in them and they glide on literally like butter. I could happily buy all of the shades in these NYX ones!
BITE BEAUTY Lush Fruit Lip Gloss in Strangefruit [USD $22.00 here or for AUS + NZ here]
The last one steps slightly out of the box in terms of the colour and strays away from my safe zone of nudes and pinks. It came as a mini in the Sephora Meet Your Match set (swatches + review here) along with the Hourglass gloss. This one has a bit of tackiness to it, but nothing that annoys me throughout the day and it offers a beautiful magenta colour with a hit of pigmentation.
So my foray into gloss has been a successful venture so far and I am feeling a lot more open to the gloss idea after using these particular one! What are some of your favourite lip glosses I should be on the look out for?
