EMPTIES | April '15 [even more than last month!]Wednesday, April 29, 2015
Last month I thought I had hit the limit on the amount of empty products I had, but this month I have even more empty things! I don't know what's going on but I seem to be churning through products at a high rate, which is a good thing because I have overflowing bathroom cabinets currently! There's a lot of body and skincare products, as well as couple of makeup items and some hair products too.
Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo | USD $22.00
This sample can came with the Sephora Favorites Glitz + Glam set that I reviewed earlier on this month (see it here). This worked well for a dry shampoo; it definitely soaked up the oil and left the hair looking clean, but it also gave a lot of extra texture and grip to the hair. Unfortunately it left quite a bad white cast on my darker hair, so I think I'll stick with my Batiste for the moment (plus I don't think you can even get Drybar anywhere in NZ).
SugarBaby Suntanned Sweeties Golden Glamour Self Spray Tan* | NZD $29.99
I was sent this last year as a gift from Beauty Bliss (although they are no longer stocking Sugarbaby), and I finally used the last of it this month. I really like this self tanner, the colour was gorgeous and went extremely dark on me, although it did cling to a lot of dry patches. The spray tip meant you could get a pretty even application but this stuff goes everywhere, so I had to use it standing in the bath tub! I always used a mitt to rub it all in, and it dried down in under 30 minutes. I would probably go back to this brand, but first, I've got a few other bottles of tan to get through.
Maybelline Eye + Lip Makeup Remover | NZD $7.00
What a surprise, I used another bottle of this stuff. I honestly swear by it and find it removes a lot of stubborn eye and lip products easier than others I've used. I've already got another one on the go!
Bioré Pore Unclogging Scrub with Salcylic Acid | NZD $15.99
I've had this on the go for a while, but didn't actually finish it all the way - I just wasn't really enjoying it much so have decided to throw it away. I didn't find it as 'scrubby' as I would like, it was more just very creamy with softer microbeads in it. As far as pore unclogging, I guess it did leave the skin feeling soft after use but plenty of other scrubs do the same thing. I probably wouldn't purchase this again.
The Body Shop Seaweed Mattifying Moisture Lotion SPF 15 | NZD $34.95
I bought this in the States last November because TBS products were ridiculously cheap over there so I took the opportunity to stock up! The Seaweed range has been working really well for me lately and this was perfect for the summer because it had SPF in it and it worked well under my makeup. I'll definitely buy this again very soon as it's a great one to have in the skincare line up.
Garnier 5 Sec Perfect Blur Smoothing Base Perfector | NZD $17.99
Another CM staple is this product; I can't even count how many tubes of this I've been through. It's just a great primer and really smooths out the skin making a great base for foundation. Forever repurchase!
Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara | USD $23.00
This mascara has been on its last legs for a few weeks now but I refuse to let go of it until my new tube arrives (which should be in the next couple of days, yay!) I got this particular one in November and have been using it pretty much everyday and it is easily my favourite mascara at the moment. It gives crazy good length and volume to the lashes without clumping up too bad. It's a total winner!
Johnson's No More Tears Baby Shampoo | NZD $4.99
This is my favourite product to wash my brushes with. It leaves them completely clean, and also very soft and in great condition. Using this with the Brush Egg makes brush cleaning a breeze. I've already got the huge bottle of this tucked in my cupboard.
Batiste Dry Shampoo A Hint of Colour Dark + Deep Brown | NZD $15.99
As I mentioned earlier, this is my dry shampoo of choice and it's worth that little bit extra to get this one with the colour added for no white cast on the hair. It does a great job at refreshing and soaking up oil. The normal type does work well, but I do find I get a bit of white on the hair, although sometimes if I really rub it in I can get away with it.
The Body Shop Seaweed Clarifying Toner | NZD $20.50
Like a few of these other products, this one always pops up in Empties. I really like this toner as it doesn't dry the skin out but it helps to control oil and cleans the skin even more after cleasning. I'll probably go back to this, but I'm currently testing out a couple of other toners.
The Body Shop Seaweed Pore-Cleansing Facial Exoliator | NZD $26.25
Now this exfoliator is amazing! It has the right amount of scrub so it feels like I'm really giving my skin a deep clean. I think for sensitive skin this might be a little harsh as the micro beads are very coarse on the skin, but personally I love it. I need to go out and buy this one again because it's that good!
Makeup Revolution Pro Fix Amazing Makeup Fixing Spray | UK £5.00
This spray I've had on the go for a while now and I should have thrown it out last month (at the least!) By the end of it, it was spraying out big clumps of it and didn't have the fine mist like it used to have, although it still seemed like there was a lot of product at the bottom. It felt nice to spray on the face and it helped to settle down my makeup and take away any excess powdery-ness I might have had. It wasn't 'amazing' as it claims, but still good.
e.l.f. Studio Mist + Set | USD $3.00
This is another product I've been through a few of, I like it because it's cheap and it seems to do the job really well. I like it for setting makeup, but I also love it for spritzing on eye shadows to intensify the colour. Unfortunately this was a very leaky bottle, which is just a one off thing because other's I've had have been fine! I need to do another iHerb order and get another one.
anatomicals Be Good With Your Hands In Bed Night Time Hand Cream* | NZD $9.99
I have a full review of this hand cream here, and in short, I used this right to the very last drop and absolutely loved it! It was rich and moisturising, but it also didn't leave the hands feeling greasy. I'll totally be getting another of these next time I'm in Countdown, and I might even try another scent if they have one.
Garnier 2-in-1 Express Eye-Makeup Remover* | NZD $9.99
And here's another product that I already have a full review of here, but I promised in that to share whether it actually strengthen the lashes like it claims. Well I didn't really notice a huge difference, but my lashes do seem a touch longer than normal, so maybe this did help? It did a great job at removing my eye makeup though, but now after using it all the way, I still think I prefer the Maybelline one.
Phew, that sure was a long one! It always amazes me at the end of the month to see how many products I made my way through. I definitely need to get through a bit more makeup now, but that is always difficult to finish all the way.
Have you used any of these products? What do you think of them?
