SMASHBOX | Glam Femme Makeup Set - Review + SwatchesWednesday, August 12, 2015
I feel like Smashbox as a brand goes a little under the radar and I don't hear a whole lot about it on blogs and videos, like other brands. I will admit it's only since I started blogging that I really got into trying out more of the Smashbox range, but everything I've used has been amazing quality and really beautiful products. This Glam Femme Set* released earlier in the year is a great way to try out a few of their products with the ability to create many different makeup looks.
The sets comes with four full sized products, which I'll get into more detail later in the post. There's a beautiful eyeshadow palette, an eyeliner, highlighter and lip gloss. The set also comes with a mini booklet that outlines a few ways you can utilise the kit and gives some makeup inspiration.
Glam Femme Photo Op Eye Shadow Palette [Limited Edition to this set]
This compact palette comes with eight shades - four matte (Pastel, Vanilla, Wheat + Antique) and four shimmers (Ignite, Fig, Wine + Obsidian). I love the mix of shades with some amazing golds and bronzes, to more interesting eggplant and mauve shades. All of the shadows have beautiful pigmentation which I've come to expect from Smashbox palettes. The matte shades are extremely buttery and silky feeling, although I find they do have a bit of fall out in the pan. The shimmers have a range of finishes, some are more glittery, where as others are pure shimmers. The all blend well, especially the matte shades, and one thing I love is that they have the two basic matte shades with the biggest pans (very smart thinking Smashbox!)
Soft Lights Highlighter in Shimmer
I absolutely adore this highlighter and I think with the eyeshadow palette, it's the stand out of the kit. It's more on the cooler side of shimmers, with a pinky/peach base with silver shimmer through it - it reminds me a lot of Benefit High Beam, but in powder form. It has a very soft consistency and you can really blend it well onto the cheeks.
Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liner in Raven
First off the thing I love about this liner is the twist up cap that sharpens it every single time you open it, hence 'always sharp' (they also have the same packaging for their lip liners). Along with the ingenious packaging, the product itself is great; it's very black, very pigmented and you only have a few seconds to work with it until it sets down. For a kohl liner, it wears really well without fading or smudging.
Be Legendary Lip Gloss in Disco Rose
I've preached my dislike for glosses for a while, but I am coming around to them and have a few that I really like. This one isn't quite up there, but as glosses go it ticks the right boxes. It's not too tacky, although it does feel quite thick on the lips, which I think is down to the highly pigmented formula. The doefoot makes it easy to apply to the lips precisely, and spreads a good even coating over the lips. The colour is a gorgeous strawberry red, but I prefer to slap it on, then blot off the bulk of it to leave a lighter layer.
The Glam Femme Set retails for NZD $97.00, which I think is an amazing deal for four full sized products. It works out at around $24.00 for each one, considering the Soft Lights alone is $48.00, the Always Sharp Kohl Liners are $46.00 each, and the Be Legendary Lip Glosses are $40.00!
Have you used any of these Smashbox products? What do you think of this set?
