The Importance of Makeup Artistry | Beauty Book Launches in NZ + Huge Giveaway

Monday, May 30, 2016

As a beauty blogger, I sometimes get asked if I'm a Makeup Artist, as many bloggers and influential YouTubers are qualified makeup artists. However, I'd call myself just your regular makeup enthusiast who likes to waffle on about beauty, I am definitely no makeup artist! I understand makeup, I do it pretty well on myself, but when it comes to doing makeup on other people I find it so difficult. It is a totally different ball game, so I have massive respect for those who are makeup artists.

Personally, I love doing my makeup. The act of doing it makes me really relaxed and prepares me mentally for the day ahead, but I know that it is probably not the case for some. Applying makeup can seem daunting, particularly with the constant introduction of new products and trends making it seem difficult to actually apply these techniques on yourself. Hands up who struggles doing winged liner, or applying false lashes? I know I still do! On the flip side, makeup artists go through loads of training and courses and end up with a wealth of makeup knowledge, which is why makeup artistry is so important.

MUA's are insanely creative, one flick through someone's Instagram or portfolio will show the wealth of skills and creativity that they have. When it comes to special occasions, such as weddings, school formals etc, this is when makeup artists excel. They know what suits certain skin types and, for example, they will understand various eye shapes to apply the perfect liquid liner to suit you best. They'll be able to enhance your features and make you look and feel more beautiful than you already are. On a more creative scale, makeup artists can totally transform someone's look. What would we do without them on movie sets or backstage at fashion shows? They are true artists, with the face being the canvas!

Finding someone to do your makeup can be difficult and a hard decision to make, especially if it is something like your wedding day when you want everything to be perfect. The brand new website Beauty Book is going to make this process a whole lot easier by curating a number of MUA's from all over the country into one big booking system.

As a customer, you will have access to a number of makeup artists in your area so you can choose who would suit your needs. As a Makeup Artist, you have the opportunity to showcase your business and work to a wider audience and get potential jobs from it. Customers can browse through the MUAs that are listed on the site and see images from their portfolio as well a full bio with previous career highlights, what they might have in their kit, and how long they have worked in the industry. From here, customers who are signed up can see when the MUA is available plus their given rates. Some MUAs may be able to travel to a specific location and this will be specified in their bio. Once you have chosen a MUA, you book and pay all through the site. Booking services for customers will be live from the 10th June onwards.

For an MUA, this is a great opportunity to book more gigs and have regular customers find you through the site. To sign up for a year as a Makeup Artist you pay a fee of $109.99, but as a pre-launch offer if you sign up between 23rd May -30th June 2016 and use the code BB you will only have to pay $80.00 for the first year. Beauty Book basically becomes your receptionist, finding clients for you and taking care of all the timetabling, but you still have control over your appointment schedule, prices and the services you offer.

From a consumer point of view this service is extremely useful, and the opportunity to discover MUAs across New Zealand will have you ready for any events you may require a makeup artist for. For the Makeup Artists it's also going to be rewarding; if you are only recently qualified and looking for exposure this could really help, and if you've been doing it for years on your own, this might make things a bit easier on the organisation side of things.

Included are 23 products from M.A.C., 9 products from Mecca (selection of Hourglass, NARS and Stila), plus a Morphe 35O Palette.

Sign up via. their website or head over there to learn more about the service. Now I just need an event to go to so I can find a Makeup Artist to use!
