MAYBELLINE | 2017 New Year Launches - Swatches + First ImpressionsWednesday, February 01, 2017
Every 6 months or so we are blessed with a whole load of new Maybelline products being launched. At the end of 2016, I was sent the most amazing PR parcel, consisting of a cardboard, Maybelline themed Christmas tree, with little lights and each branch had one of the new products attached to it (see below for some pictures of the tree). NZ is finally getting the much loved Color Jolt Lipsticks as well as the Loaded Bolds range, plus an affordable cushion foundation.
Check out that amazing tree, shout out to Pead PR for always coming up with exciting deliveries. Now let's get into the products!
Superstay Makeup Extending Primer* | NZD $24.99
The Superstay line was missing one thing, and that was a primer, now the void has been filled. I really like the Superstay foundation, and to have a primer that is designed to work alongside it and keep your makeup in place even longer is a winner for me. It feels very smoothing on the skin with a very light and liquidy texture. It is the perfect companion for oily skinned gals!
V-Face Duo Stick in Medium* | NZD $19.99
A convenient dual-ended contour stick that has a darker matte shade for the contour and lighter shimmery shade for highlighting. Using creams always look a lot more natural and blend easier into the skin, plus the precision of the lipstick like stick means you can get a more chiselled effect for your contour. This also comes in a lighter shade also.
Master Strobing Stick Illuminating Highlighter in 100 Light/Irridescent* | NZD $16.99
Originally these were released as cream blushes which I really liked, and now they have launched it in two highlighting shades. These pack a lot of pigment and are very creamy to apply and blend out. This shade is quite an icy light pink, but I really like the effect it gives.
Dream Cushion Fresh Face Liquid Foundation SPF 20 in Ivory* | NZD $29.99
Last year L'Oreal launched their Nude Magique Cushion Foundation, so naturally sister brand Maybelline had to launch one as well. I am really surprised by how much I like one. The shade Ivory is a great match for me and it provides light to medium coverage and is buildable on the skin. I like to use a damp sponge to apply it and it looks very fresh and glowing on the skin. I do find throughout the day it starts to gather in certain places, but I do have oily/combo skin so this happens often. I would say this is fit for normal to dry skin, but I still like to use it and just set it down with a powder. There are 6 shades available and is one of the cheapest cushion foundations on the market.
NY Bricks Bronzer in 01 Blondes* | NZD $19.99
This might be one of my new favourite bronzers, it's matte which is always a winner for me but gives the skin a nice sunkissed colour, plus the highlighter is a golden peachy pink, which packs great pigmentation and blends well on the skin.
Master Drama The Nudes Eye Pencil in Rose Pearl* | NZD $14.99
As soon as I swatched this pencil I knew I was going to be a fan of these as the formula is so creamy and pigmented, but they set down and stay around. I'm not sure on exactly how many shades have been launched but this soft creamy champagne makes the perfect inner corner highlighter, or as a base for shadows on top.
The Rock Nudes Eyeshadow Palette* | NZD $29.99
Joining 'The Nudes' palette family is this darker and grungier Rock Nudes, with 12 different shades in various finishes. I am going to review this separately with swatches so keep your eyes peeled for that.
Color Jolt Intense Lip Paints* | NZD $14.99 each
I have had my eyes on these for a while since they were released a while back in the US. These are high intensity and highly pigmented liquid lipsticks, with a glossy finish to them. These aren't going to set on the lips and do transfer, but the colours are rich and gorgeous with 8 shades.
Color Sensational Loaded Bolds* | NZD $19.99 each
Another US launch I have been waiting patiently for is this new range of navy lidded lipsticks. The Loaded Bolds offer some very on trend and daring shades such as this griege, and a deep purple. In the US they launched a white and black shades in this range but I think these have been omitted from the NZ launch. There are 8 shades available and seem to have a great lasting power.
Some other products launching that I am yet to try are: Lash Sensational Luscious Mascara ($24.99), and the Color Sensational Lip Shapers in 6 shades ($15.99).
2017 is already looking to be an amazing year for beauty releases, with so much more to come. These were available from 23rd January so you should be able to find them on Maybelline stands.
